At long last, the core libraries have all migrated to use the spago.yaml manifest format, the one natively accepted by the registry. We encourage you to do the same in your own libraries, rather than the deprecated bower.json format (spago.dhall, as always, is unsuitable for libraries).
Bower has been deprecated for nearly 10 years and we were careful to preserve compatibility for a long while, but finally the day has come to finally move away completely. spago.dhall is not an accepted format for specifying library dependencies, so libraries couldn’t use it (unless you only ever wanted to support package set users). The registry officially ended Bower support on August 1, 2026, though it still accepts them for the time being and it can be removed at any point.
You can see the effect upgrade as an example of the migration:
In addition, all of the purescript-contrib, purescript-node, purescript-web, and purescript-halogen repositories have migrated to spago.yaml.
In each case we released the new library version as a patch release, as the code and dependencies are unchanged from the perspective of the registry. As a user this is an invisible change to you unless you are a Bower user — in which case, hello! probably time to switch!
